Before we started, Ines and I wanted to lay out some of our renovation goals to track our progress; here they are room by room (see “The Before’s” post written earlier today for a reference):

Entryway/Foyer:
– Repaint front door (possibly something bright/bold like this door)
– Replace lighting fixture
– Scrape popcorn ceilings
– Repaint walls, trim, and ceiling
– Remove tile and install hardwoods
– Repaint interior doors (maybe add trim to the door face)
– Install straight curtains for windows bordering front door

1/2 Bathroom:
– Scrape popcorn ceilings
– Maybe remove ceiling housing the stairway to create more headroom
– Repaint walls, trim, and ceiling

Office:
Remove carpet and subfloor
– Scrape popcorn ceilings
– Repaint door, walls, trim, and ceiling, closet doors
– Install hardwoods
– Add window treatments /curtains

Guest Bedroom:
– Remove carpet and subfloor
– Scrape popcorn ceilings
– Repaint door, walls, trim, ceiling, and doors
– Install hardwoods
– Add window treatments / curtains

Guest Bathroom:
– Remove wallpaper
– Scrape popcorn off ceilings
– Repaint door, walls, trim, and ceiling
– Remove cabinet above toilet and install floating shelves
– Repaint mirrors and light fixtures
– Resurface tub and sinks (new color)
– Install new tile for bath area
– Repurpose/Refinish laminate countertops with a concrete overlay
– Recycle/Refinish faucets
– Repaint cabinets
– Add window treatment

Formal Living Room:
Remove carpet and subfloor
Scrape popcorn ceilings
– Repaint ceiling, walls, trim, and baseboards
– Install hardwoods
– Add new curtains
– Replace center-of-room light fixtures

Dining Room:
– Remove carpet and subfloor
– Scrape popcorn ceilings
– Repaint ceiling, walls, trim, and baseboards
– Install hardwoods
– Add new curtains
– Repaint light fixture
– Remove wall-mirrors
– Open entryway into kitchen/family room

Family Room:
– Remove carpet and subfloor
– Scrape popcorn ceilings
– Repaint ceiling, walls, trim, and baseboards
– Remove built-ins to create a larger space
– Install hardwoods
– Open entryway from/into Dining Room
– Open entryway from/into Foyer (expose stairway)

Eat-in Area:
– Remove tile
– Install hardwoods
– Repaint window/door trim
– Repaint ceiling fan/light fixture
– Move ceiling fan/light fixture a higher place on the ceiling
– Replace curtains

Laundry Area:
Install Energystar Washer and Dryer
– Repaint bi-fold doors
– Repaint interior
– Come up with way to organize shelving to maximize storage

Kitchen (this is our big fix):
Ines says, “Burn it down and start over”
Ines comes to senses
– Remove eating bar
– Create island/peninsula if possible from current configuration (remove portions of wall attached to island)
– Remove cabinets and vent above island to open viewing lines from kitchen to family room
– Remove linoleum
– Install hardwoods
– Cut current doors into two separate peices or have new doors manufactured
– If possible, repaint current cabinets and cabinet doors
– Add new cabinet fixtures
– Scrape popcorn ceilings
– Repaint walls, trim, kickboards
– Open ceilings to the vaulted portion or as high as possible without losing cabinets
– Add new window treatment
– Add slide out shelves to pantry to increase storage

Stairway and 2nd Floor Walkway:
– Expose stairway in order to open entry into family room
– Refinish/repaint railing
– Remove carpet and subfloor
– Install hardwood steps
– Scrape popcorn ceilings
– Repaint walls, trim, baseboards, and ceiling
– Repaint cabinets/doors

Utility Room:
– Remove carpet and subfloor
– Scrape popcorn ceilings
– Repaint walls, ceilings, trim, closet door, and baseboards
– Install hardwoods
– Add new curtains

Master Bathroom:
– Remove wallpaper
– Scrape popcorn ceilings
– Repaint walls, ceiling, trim, baseboards, and cabinets
– Remove bidet
– Install molding around mirror
– Repaint shower trim
– Install second shower head (piping already installed)
– Recaulk sky lights
– Create a concrete overlay for countertops
– Replace seashell sinks
– Replace lighting fixtures

Master Bedroom:
– Remove carpet and subfloor
– Scrape popcorn ceilings
– Repaint walls, ceiling, trim, baseboards, and closet door
– Install hardwoods
– Add new curtains
– Add sliding barn door for closet instead of swing door
– Open Master Closet by re-arranging shelving

Balcony:
– Refinish floor
– Add waterproof furniture set
– Replace light fixture
– Refasten railing

Patio:
– Add concrete to level flooring area
– Adjust ceiling height of pergola
– Add waterproof furniture set
– Install ceiling lighting
– Overhaul garden area

Storage Shed:
– Repair foundation
– Insulate shed

Garage:
– Add sloping metal roof top or other drainage system
– Repaint garage door
– Repair foundation trim
– Add storage shelving and peg-board hooks

Front Porch / Courtyard:
– Repair sitting bench
– Cover plot area with concrete or overhaul planting area
– Replace lighting fixtures

Exterior/Roof/Yard:
Replace broken roof tiles and check for damage
– Repaint all siding (except slump block and brick)
– Overhaul front sidewalk hedge/landscaping
– Clear strangled mess of a bush on western face of house
– Reseal sky lights to Master Bathroom
